But first, Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a wonderful turkey day yesterday, which was when I wanted to post this but got busy with my family.
This is a little photostory I put together 2 years ago, when Felicity was rooming with Amy, Susan, and Sophie. The Girls' house layout is different from how it is now because Pleasantville was located in a different area.
So Enjoy!
Start with a fresh turkey from the market.
Wrap a clean cloth around it,
And place it on your meat shelf in the fridge.
Pick your vegetables fresh if possible. Felicity had Amy get them on her route for gathering food for her father's market.(This was before the Larson's bought it)
Amy is cautious when she picks the lettuce by the Bunny's home. She giddily rushes down the mountain after getting the lettuce and winning the daily standoff between them!
Wash your veggies in the river to get off any dirt.
Pat them dry with a towel.
Mix up your favorite basting sauce.
Lissie is also warming her sauce for a minute is release flavor.
Place your turkey on an platter,
and warm it on the fire for 5 minutes.
Using 2 forks, transfer the turkey from the old platter to a nicer one.
Spoon your basting sauce over the bird.
Use the back of the spoon to really rub it in.
Dip your carrots into the sauce before adding them to the dish.
Repeat with the green beans
Chop up a few onions to add to the dish. Also add the mushrooms, peas, and a little garlic.
Cover with a lid and place on the fire.
In the meantime, Felicity is making a loaf of bread for dinner. In a bowl, mix milk, oats, butter, and eggs to make the dough.
Roll out the dough...
and begin to knead vigorously.
Place in a bowl and cover with a clean cloth. Place the bowl behind a waterfall and wait for Mother Nature to replace with bread. This will take a while, so check on the turkey while you wait.
Test it with a fork. This one isn't ready yet.
Swirl your fork in the remains of the basting sauce....
and flick it over the whole dish.
Repeat every time you check.
Retrieve the bowl of dough, which has been replace by a loaf of bread. Felicity sprinkles a bit of flour mixed with herbs on the top.
Let's start on the dessert. Make more dough for a pie crust and press into a pie pan.
Since Felicity didn't have a pumpkin pie recipe, she is making a blueberry pie instead. Begin pouring blueberries into the pie crust to figure out how many you will need.
After you have decided how many, pour the berries into a pot along with a pat of butter...
Some sugar.....
And water.
Pour the mixture into your crust and weave strips of dough onto the top.
Cook in the oven if you have one.
Whoops! Looks like Lissie's shrunk a bit! Maybe she should leave the baking to Amy! Oh well, it still tastes delicious.
Use a spatula to very carefully take the pie out of the pan and place it on a pretty plate.
Cover the pie and place on top of the mantel.
As a side dish Felicity is preparing a fruit salad. She is using blueberries....
Blackberries ("This is what mob caps are for Felicity!")...
Raspberries....
strawberries...
oranges...
apples...
grapes, and a cantaloupe.
Remove any large pieces, like the grape bunch and melon, then cover the bowl of fruit with a clean cloth and shake it (don't spill the fruit!) to mix up the salad.
Replace the large fruits after mixing.
Cut a lime in half.
Squeeze half of a lime over the fruit salad.
Remove the pie from the mantel and place it in the fridge.
Now is also a good time to check your turkey.
Not done yet? Good, we can begin on the mashed potatoes. Peel your potatoes,
Put them in a bowl and mash them with a fork.
Mix up your favorite gravy too.
The turkey should be done by now. Yum! Looks delicious!
Squeeze a little lemon juice over the turkey if you like.
Felicity decided to grab some basil,
Grind it with a mortar and pestle,
And sprinkle it over the turkey for added flavor.
Set the table with your finest china, and put the turkey in the middle of the table. Add the fruit salad....
And the bread and butter.
Spoon out a helping of mashed potatoes on each plate...
And top with gravy!
Change into a respectable dinner dress......
To enjoy a lovely dinner with friends!
And don't forget to finish off the night with a slice or two of your delicious pie! :)
I hope you enjoyed this photostory! This was the first real one I did and the only one so far. I am very excited to photograph more of the town's events. (Spoiler alert! the Parkington's house structure is finished so expect to see that soon!)
Enjoy the last few days of Fall!
